24hr Race | 21st - 22nd Apr | Garden Route

The stunning forests surrounding the Garden Route town of Knysna is where your 2018 A1 SA campaign starts. Now in its third year, the 24hr Adventure Race, hosted by Merrell Adventure Addicts, provides the ideal location for an overnight 22-26 hour race, where teams of 2 or 4 can gain experience and skills of navigation, night racing and teamwork.

So come be part of history and join race director and A1 South Africa Ambassador Graham Bird at our inaugural A1 race.

Perhaps with this event, you and your team will be on your way to winning the first A1 SA Series and be crowned the 2018 South Africa National Champions.

Nevarest Challenge

36hr Race | 7th - 8th July | Mpumalanga

Race 02 of the A1 South African Series is the Nevarest Challenge on 7-8 July. Set in the unique Pilgrim’s Rest, Mpumalanga area this 200 km course involving Mountain Biking, Trail Running, Paddling, Caving & Rope work will take you through amazing historic sites offering you a fascinating window into the past.

Exploring this early gold mining town and its surrounding panorama as if you were one of the settlers is bound to be an experience never to be forgotten!! This area is filled with unexplored gems and is only 4 hours outside of Pretoria and 1.5 hours outside of Nelspruit.

This will be a challenging course with winning times of about 24 hrs and a cut of time of 36 hrs. You’ll certainly get your money’s worth!

Cyanosis Midlands

30hr Race | 4th - 5th Aug | Kwazulu-Natal

Race 03 of the A1 SA Series is Cyanosis Midlands AR on 4-5 Aug in the Midlands region of KwaZulu-Natal. Cyanosis Adventure Racing Team, one of South Africa’s premier AR teams, returns to race organization after a 9-year hiatus. The team previously hosted 100-300km races along the edge of the Drakensberg mountains above KZN, but are now venturing into the heart of the province to explore the home of the Zulu and the Avocado farmer.

The 2018 race will find itself based around Greytown in the center of the province and thus adjacent to a mix of superb adventure racing terrain. The 160 km course will push the top teams to finish in around 20 hrs with a cut off time of 30 hrs.

26hr Race | 15th - 16th Sept | Cape Town

The fourth race of the new five race A1 SA Series is the WCAD 24 on 15-16 Sept held within 2 hrs of Cape Town. The crew from WCAD had previously spent 3 years producing some epic long format Adventure Races in the Cape Town area. After then spending the next 3 years in the wilderness, so to speak, they are rejuvenated and pumped to announce their return in 2018.

“We’re excited to be a part of the inaugural A1 South Africa series and hope to see many racers dusting off their gear, as well as some new faces on the start line. We have designed a course that will take teams through stunning landscapes on foot, mountain bike and kayak with winning times expected around 20-22 hrs with a cut off time of 26 hrs”, says race director Steve Burnett.

Kinetic Full Moon

24hr Race | 27th - 28th Oct | Drakensberg

The fifth and final race of the 2018 A1 SA Series will be the Full Moon Drakensburg race by Kinetic Events Africa on 27-28 Oct. Teams will mountain bike, trek and kayak over a distance of 120km in the beautiful Drakensberg mountains. Expedition Africa Full Moon adventure started in 2010 and this will be the 19th Full Moon adventure hosted by Kinetic Events and is suited for all levels of AR experience with winning times expected around 12 hrs and a race cut off of 24 hrs.

Fluid Kayaks, paddles and re-supply boxes supplied by Kinetic. Family friendly venue, so make bookings with Kinetic to secure a chalet.

This race will have it all, as we look to crown A1 SA’s first National Adventure Racing Champions and the team to represent South Africa at GODZone Adventure race in 2019, thanks to our partners at 100%pureracing.
