A1 World Cup Series kicks off at the Vasbyt Expedition Race

The Adventure 1 World Cup Series kicks off this weekend with the African World Cup stop rolling out at the Vasbyt Expedition Race. The event is hosted by the highly experienced expedition racer Graham Bird who is known to put on a real “racer’s race”. Set in the Drakensberg region of South Africa, teams will be challenged with long stages of trekking, mounting biking and packrafting. The course is open for 100 hours with a predicted winning time of around 72 hours. Teams with a keen eye will note that a passport is required mandatory equipment as the course crosses the border in to Lesotho. FISO Founding Assembly Meeting

As you may be aware, Adventure 1 is sanctioned by the Federation Internationale de Sports d’Obstacles (FISO) as an international adventure race series coordinator. FISO is a member based, democratic, not-for-profit organization that exists to represent the needs of its members (the athletes, national federations and their communities), and meet requirements specified by the International Olympic Committee to be recognized as an international sport. An important part for establishing a governing process for adventure racing is a meeting to discuss and codify an international governing body. This founding assembly meeting will be held virtually on Saturday 18 February. We encourage all adventure racing athletes, race directors and other stakeholders to attend the meeting as an opportunity to learn more about the governance of the sport we all love and to have a voice in the process. Team Thought Sports: 2022 Australian Champions The 2022 Australian national adventure racing series wrapped up recently with the previously postponed 24 hour Wildside Adventure Race. The demanding race was made all the more challenging by the hot and humid conditions on the day, with a course centered around the town of Gloucester. Team Vidaraid Storm To USA A1 World Cup Win

The first-ever World Cup held in the United States on December 10, 2022 was a huge success, with teams battling it out at Oak Mountain State Park in Alabama. The field was fast and strong with top teams from all over the US descending on a unique course with 50 miles of excellent single track and new untouched wilderness. The weather for December could be anything, and for this event, it was perfect with highs in the 70s and lows at only 55, with light rain coming in for only about 2 hours during the race. The A1 World Cup started with an opening half marathon trek up to the famous Peavine Falls which is not easy to get to with the very steep cliffs surrounding the checkpoint. Team No Idea Wins Adventure 1 World Cup Final

The New Zealand team put on a master class to win True West Adventure Race in 33 hours. Team No Idea (NZL) prove that they indeed had some idea, with a convincing win at the inaugural A1 World Cup Final, True West, over the past weekend. The young team burst onto the adventure racing scene earlier this year placing at the GODZone expedition race and confirmed their ability by winning the World Cup final. Hosted in the Franz Josef Glacier region of New Zealand’s South Island, the spectacular course included high alpine passes, grade 3 wild water rivers, temperate forests, and remote wilderness.  Known for its rugged nature and fickle weather, the South Island delivered spectacular conditions over the weekend of racing. Expedition Georgia starts the 2023 A1 World Cup season With the conclusion of the A1 World Cup Final at the True West Adventure Race in New Zealand last weekend, ARGEORGIA and Oak Mountain State Park are set to receive top adventure racing teams on December 10th for the start of the 2023 season at the first A1 World Cup USA.
